Driving in to Phoenix for the first time when I was eleven, Tovrea castle was the first thing I remember. For years, every time I saw the little wedding cake castle sitting on her hill, surrounded by cacti, I wondered what her story was.
Isn't she the cutest thing you've ever seen? So when Raffi got us all tickets to go tour the castle, my heart almost burst! This tour was so fun and unique, and I loved every minute of it. We got to see all the views, and hear all the stories. My favorite was the dancing girl above the fireplace, who apparently has two sisters at the Orpheum Theater, and the bank vault, which was originally part of the Phoenix National Bank.
If you're wondering how to get tickets, head to tovreacastletours.com and you can enter a lottery when it's open. If you don't get chosen for the lottery (which we did not), you can check for "Last Minute Tickets." These don't become available often, but Raffi checked daily for months and then bought them as soon as he saw them available.
Enjoy some photos I took while on our tour, and we hope you get to visit Tovrea Castle yourself!
Check out our Phoenix Watercolor Map which of course includes this beautiful landmark!
